At the core of Team Cally’s area are about 4,500 people living and working roughly West of the Caledonian Road, North of Copenhagen Street, East of York Way and South of the North London line. Or more simply – on the boundaries of Islington, West of the Caledonian Road. You can see it on a map by clicking here. This is just a starting point, but we had to start somewhere. if the principles work then the area can change.
The area to be covered by Team Cally is centered upon the lower layer Super Output Area (SOA) known as “Bemerton”. The core area is a rectangular geography boundaried by York Way to the West, the North London railway line to the north, the Regent’s Canal to the south and Caledonian Road to its east. This is a distinctive area predominantly consisting of social housing of which the Bemerton estate is the largest single estate. Broadly speaking the area consists of around 4,500 residents living in an area covered by 3 lower layer Super Output Areas:
- E01002715 which mainly consists of the northern part of the Bemerton estate
- E01002709 which covers the southern half of the Bemerton estate, (former) Naish Court and the Delhi-Outram estate.
- E01002710 which primarily contains Treaty Street, Tiber Gardens and York Way Court
Our intention is to have a relatively “porous” boundary to the east of our core area because
the Caledonian Road is the high street serving both the core area and the more affluent
localities to its east. We want to encourage a much stronger sense of community and the
Caledonian Road itself represents a very visible and symbolic boundary between two
diverging communities. Nonetheless, our main emphasis will be upon the core area.
